Safe. Safe, safe, safe, safe.

Standard

Ok so maybe its not ALWAYS safe.  There are some burglaries, some murders, some creeps here in Japan.  But when I walked into the atm room to get some cash for food, I couldn’t help taking a picture of what I found.  A bank card sat on the side of the ATM, waiting patiently for its rightful owner.  Doubtlessly, someone unknowingly left it in the machine or dropped it on the ground.  It was left by the next patron sitting on the side of the machine until the person realizes they dont have their card and goes back.  I wish I could guarantee a happy ending to this story, though I have no idea if the card made it home.  However from what I could tell, it wouldn’t matter how many people came to use the ATM today, that card would not move until the person whose name it reads returned.  There may be some underlying strange reasons that Japanese are so rule-following, respectful, or at least scared to do something bad… but the result seems positive.  I hope that the reason the card is left is because this is a country of people who have a strong sense of being good to those around them and what they would want if it were them.  Thats my version and I will stick to it until proven otherwise.
